Midgard is one of the Nine Realms you can visit in God of War Ragnarok, and contains a vast amount of regions you can explore during your adventures. It is one of the first realms you can visit during the main quest, and also holds many optional side areas to explore, however you won't be able to fully explore it at first. This page contains an overview of all of Midgard's regions, including collectible locations, side quests, secrets, and optional boss fights in the realm.

SPOILER WARNING

Since the story takes you to Midgard multiple times over varying circ*mstances, BEWARE OF SPOILERS ACROSS THIS PAGE!!

Lower Wildwoods - Lore 1 - Winter-Man?

Lower Wildwoods Lore 1 - Winter-Man?

This Lore is untracked, and is not required for 100% completion.

  • Type: Rune Read

This Rune Read is found as you follow Atreus to the ruined temple, just after you slide down the zipline rope, fight some enemies, slip through a small gap, and encounter your first Hel-Raider Scout. It’ll be visible to the right of the icy cliff you have to climb up.

Lower Wildwoods - Lore 2 - The Ashen God

advertisem*nt

Lower Wildwoods Lore 2 - The Ashen God

This Lore is untracked, and is not required for 100% completion.

  • Type: Scroll

Found close to the ruined temple after you fight the Stalker, aka the Huntress centaur boss who breaks Kratos’ Guardian Shield.

Once you climb up the ice wall to the dark entrance inside the ruined temple, take the left and drop down onto the ruined bridge to find the scroll at the end.

Shores of Nine - Legendary Chest-U 1

Shores of Nine - Legendary Chest 1

This Legendary Chest is untracked, and is not required for 100% completion.

  • Contains: Companion Accessory - Sonic Aftershock

advertisem*nt

Found during your second visit to Midgard, which you do as Atreus. After the big cutscene towards the end of the level, you’ll be standing in front of a gold chain. Climb up the chain and the chest will be on your left.

Stolen Treasures 5 - Fert

Stolen Treasures 5 - Fert

This Treasure is visible during an early jaunt in Midgard, however it isn’t available to collect until you’re able to explore the Shores and Lake of Nine as Kratos.

Once you’re able to, head for the Svartalfheim Realm Tower, the one directly North of Tyr’s Temple (that’s the large round structure in the middle of the Lake of Nine). On the right-hand side is a ledge you can leap up to.

At the top, jump across the gap using the Grapple Point into the dark room: the Artifact will be on your right. While you’re here, make sure to loot the nearby Coffin for 2 Slag Deposits, 5 Beast Scraps and 273 Hacksilver.

Shores of Nine - Lore 1 - Tyr’s Right Bracer

Shores of Nine - Lore 1 - Tyr’s Right Bracer

  • Type: Rune Read
  • Prerequisite: Complete the Into the Fire main quest.

advertisem*nt

This Rune Read is in the Shores of Nine that you can initially explore as Atreus, however since it’s hidden behind some Hel’s Bramble, it cannot be accessed until you’re able to explore the area as Kratos.

Once you’re able to do this, head for the Northern area of the Lake of Nine and look for a wide beam you can vault over. Slip under the fallen rock, then retrace your steps by creeping through the wreckage of the arm of Tyr’s statue.

On the other side, you’ll have to fight a pair of Frost Gradungr before you can continue. Once they’re down, face the arm and you’ll see the lore glowing behind some Hel’s Bramble. Burn it down with the Blades of Chaos!

While here, make sure to dig up the glowing spot to get the Waist Guard of Guiding Light.

The Yggdrasil Rift in the Shores of Nine can only be accessed once you’re able to explore the Lake of Nine areas as Kratos. Once you’re able to do this, head for the Northern area of the Lake of Nine and look for a wide beam you can vault over, then slip through the fallen rock ahead.

Take the earliest left to head uphill, then jump across the gap: the Rift will be directly ahead.

    • 3 Stonewood
    • 4 Dwarven Steel
    • 5 Dust of Realms
    • 500 Hacksilver

This Shores of Nine Yggdrasil Rift is found by continuing the path from Yggdrasil Rift 1 in the same region. At the base of the Realm Tower, burn away the Hel’s Bramble with the Blades of Chaos, then turn the lever to summon the lift.

Take the lift up to the top, and the rift will be directly ahead. Luckily, there’s no enemies to defeat!

Shore of Nine - Well of Urd (Asgard Remnant)

This remnant is in the northwest area of the Shores of Nine, near the Well of Urd. For more information on The Last Remnants of Asgard favor, click here.

Sanctuary Grove - Mirkweed

advertisem*nt

Sanctuary Grove - Mirkweed

  • Prerequisite: Talk to Ratatoskr after completing The Path quests
  • Location: Midgard - Sanctuary Grove

The Mirkweed flower is found at Sanctuary Grove, Freya’s old home from the 2018 game, however it isn’t available to freely explore until you’ve completed The Path quests. Further, you must also unlock travel to Sanctuary Grove in Midgard: you can do this by talking to Ratatoskr at Sindri’s House.

When you’ve done these tasks, head for a Mystic Gateway and unlock the gateway at Sanctuary Grove. Head down to Chaurli the giant turtle, and you’ll find the flower to the East of him (or his right, if you prefer) at the end of the path.

    • 1 Dwarven Steel
    • 1 Honed Metal

This Buried Treasure is located in the Eastern part of the region, but you'll have to find its Treasure Map in the Raider Fort first. The Treasure will be at the feet of the two giant doors, close to the Raider Hideout cave entrance and where the Odin's Raven described above is.

Stolen Treasures 2 - Kila

The Yggdrasil Rift in the Lake of Nine is at the frozen lightning, however the way to get there isn’t too intuitive.

First, you’ll need to get up onto the Realm Tower Bridge of Tyr’s Temple. To do that, head to the Eastern-most Realm Tower that the bridge connects to. Approach from the North, and you’ll find an elevator you can use to get to the top.

Now that you’re on the bridge, head down it, although you will have to defeat some Draugr and surprise Einherjar part-way down.

Once they’re all dead, head to the far side of the bridge, then go down the left-hand stairs.

Drop down the ice ledges, and you’ll be at the frozen lightning! Nicely, the Yggdrasil Rift has no enemies.

Stolen Treasures 4 - Maya

Stolen Treasures 4 - Maya

This Artifact is located directly under the Realm Bridge of Tyr’s Temple, the large round structure in the Lake of Nine.

advertisem*nt

There you’ll find a small ledge you can vault up: the Artifact will be on your left here.

Lake of Nine - Odin’s Raven 2

Lake of Nine - Odin’s Raven 2

    • 2 Luminous Alloy
    • 2 Petrified Bones
    • 40 Shattered Runes

This Buried Treasure's map is located in Svartalfheim's The Applecore region, however you can only reach it after you've picked up some new equipment in the Forging Destiny main quest.

Once you’ve acquired the Treasure Map, head for the Realm Tower North-West of Tyr’s Temple in the middle of Midgard's Lake of Nine and look for the Wind Fissure in the ice at its Western corner. Destroy it using your new equipment.

Head down the new path, and at the end you’ll spot an Ormr loot lizard right where the Buried Treasure is. If you want to kill it for its loot (and you should), cut down the Red Pot hanging directly above it.

Lake of Nine - Legendary Chest 1

Lake of Nine - Legendary Chest 1

  • Prerequisite: Complete the Forging Destiny main quest
  • Contains: Spear Attachment - Lion’s Roar Sauroter

advertisem*nt

This Legendary Chest is found at the base of the Realm Tower to the West of Tyr’s Temple. To get to it, you need to destroy the Wind Fissure in the ice at the Southern corner of the tower. Use the equipment you got during the Forging Destiny main quest to destroy it.

This will summon a Frost Phantom, who is protected by no less than four Runic Springs around the area!

Once you’ve killed it, return to the base of the Realm Tower to open the Legendary Chest.

Lake of Nine - Lore 4 - Receipt of Purchase

Lake of Nine - Lore 4 - Receipt of Purchase

  • Prerequisite: Complete the Forging Destiny main quest
  • Type: Scroll

This Scroll is found South-West of Tyr’s Temple, directly between it and The Lost Treasury building. However, you cannot access it until you complete the Forging Destiny main quest.

Once you’ve done this, sled out to the spot on the wall of ice South-West of Tyr’s Temple. You should be able to find a yellow Wind Fissure: destroy it using the new equipment you got during Forging Destiny.

Head through and you should see the Scroll on your left. Next to it is the Mystical Heirloom, a Relic that has rather unknown properties, outside of perhaps counteracting a sleeping curse.

advertisem*nt

Also in the area is a Coffin, behind the gas of a Scorn Pole. To get past it, you’ll need to set up a chain of Hex Bubbles, as it’s otherwise blocked by the ice.

Berserker Gravestone - Fraekni the Zealous

Berserker Gravestone - Fraekni the Zealous

  • Prerequisite: Progress The Word of Fate main quest

This Berserker Gravestone is found at the Northern-most Realm Tower in the Lake of Nine, East of Sindri’s workshop and the Mystic Gateway. You can activate it once you progress The Word of Fate main quest and acquire the Inter Hilt of Skofnung.

Lake of Nine - Asgard Remnant

The other remnant in Midgard is in the Lake of Nine, just outside Tyr's temple.

To get there, go to the lake and go up the temple using the elevator shown below.

Get off the platform and walk to the right to start the fight.

Raider Fort - Lore 1 - Viking’s Gift

Raider Fort - Lore 1 - Viking’s Gift

  • Type: Treasure Map

This Treasure Map is the only collectible in the Raider Fort. This is the enclosed arena of ice close to the giant rib bones, which is where you enter the Lake of Nine from the Lower Wildwoods where Kratos’ house is.

Once you’ve cleared the fort of Raiders, check near the lit campfire to find the Treasure Map sitting out in the open. It’ll lead you to a Buried Treasure spot in the North-East area of the Lake of Nine, close to the Raider Hideout.

Clearing out this camp is part of the favor "Animal Instincts."

Raider Hideout - Nornir Chest 1

Raider Hideout - Nornir Chest 1

advertisem*nt

  • Type: Torch

This Nornir Chest is found inside the Raider Hideout cave. It’s in the Eastern area of the Lake of Nine, at the feet of the two huge doors. The Nornir Chest will be at the very back of the cave.

The R Rune is located behind the Red Fungi Bramble to the left of the Nornir Chest. Place a Hex there with a Sigil Arrow and then ignite it with a Blazing Surge to burn it down. The easiest way to light the torch itself is to grab a lava rock from the dispenser and throw that at it.

The N Rune is to the right of the Nornir Chest, behind the gold rocks. Look for the lava rock dispenser in the main plaza of the room, then throw a lava rock at the gold rocks to destroy them. Light it by throwing a second lava rock at the torch itself.

The C Rune is the most devilishly located: it’s at the far end of the chasm that’s directly in front of you when coming down the entry stairs. To light it, grab a lava rock from the dispenser in the lower plaza, then set up a few Hex Bubbles leading down from the torch. Throw the lava rock while your aim is level with the torch, and the lava rock will collide with one of the lower Hexes, setting off a chain reaction that lights the torch!

Raider Hideout - Legendary Chest 1

Raider Hideout - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Blades Heavy Runic Attack - Tartarus Rage

advertisem*nt

This Legendary Chest is found in the Raider Hideout, the cave at the base of the double doors in the Eastern area of the Lake of Nine. It’ll be sitting in the back-right corner of the room.

The chest contains the Tartarus Rage Heavy Runic Attack for the Blades of Chaos. It has Kratos slam each of the blades into the ground in a Y spread, creating fiery shockwaves that stagger and then launch enemies into the air. While upgrades can’t keep up the Damage and Burn of the Nemean Crush, it can get much more Stun capability.

Clearing out this camp is part of the favor "Animal Instincts."

Raider Stronghold - Legendary Chest 1

Raider Stronghold - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Blades Light Runic Attack - Cyclone of Chaos

This Legendary Chest is found in the Raider Stronghold, which is the base inside Tyr’s Temple. Check the North side of the Realm Bridge to find the entrance. Defeat all the Kol Raiders inside, then head to the exit hallway to find the Legendary Chest at the end.

The chest contains the Cyclone of Chaos, a Light Ronic Attack for the Blades of Chaos. This is a wide sweeping attack that’s great for crowd control, and can be upgraded to deal high amounts of Stun.

advertisem*nt

This region is in the southern area of the Lake of Nine. While there are no collectibles in Raider Keep, you will need to clear out this camp as part of the favor "Animal Instincts."

This camp has a blood trail at its entrance, so it's easy to identify.

The Derelict Outpost - Odin’s Raven 1

The Derelict Outpost - Odin’s Raven 1

The first Odin’s Raven of the Derelict Outpost can be found right at the beginning of the area. From the end of the valley you can travel down with the sled, dismount and vault over the wide wooden beam. Turn left around the rock column here to see a short side-path that goes under a boat. Look up to see the Raven perched in a hole in the underside of the boat’s hull.

The Derelict Outpost - Lore 1 - Bjarg Stormr

The Derelict Outpost - Lore 1 - Bjarg Stormr

  • Type: Lore Marker

The first Lore Marker of The Derelict Outpost is found in the opening area of the level. From the entryway, head directly forwards to where the Wisp Totem is.

advertisem*nt

Here at the corner, turn left to spot the Lore Marker!

The Derelict Outpost - Odin’s Raven 2

The Derelict Outpost - Odin’s Raven 2

The second Odin’s Raven in the Derelict Outpost is found early on. From the starting point, turn the wooden crane on your right so you can cross the gap with its grapple point, then turn left and mantle up the left-hand ledge through the ruined archway.

Here will be a second wooden crane: the Raven will be standing on top of its tower.

Stolen Treasures 6 - Lyre

Stolen Treasures 6 - Lyre

This Artifact is found in The Derelict Outpost, which is the ruins you have to climb into in the South-West area of the Lake of Nine. Specifically, it’s just after the second wooden crane, which you have to raise up into position using a chain.

advertisem*nt

Once you’ve done this, grapple across the gap, then turn around: drop down the left-hand ledge to a lower area. Defeat the three Wisps here, then pick up the Artifact glowing next to a corpse slumped on the wall.

The Derelict Outpost - Lore 2 - An Accursed Name

The Derelict Outpost - Lore 2 - An Accursed Name

  • Type: Lore Marker

This Lore Marker is found at the end of The Derelict Outpost level. After moving the third wooden crane into position (using the chain in the lower level to lower it so you can turn it), grapple across the gap, and leap up the cliff.

When you get to the top, and it’ll be over to your left.

The Derelict Outpost - Legendary Chest 1

The Derelict Outpost - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains: Axe Heavy Runic Attack - Ivaldi’s Anvil

advertisem*nt

This Legendary Chest is found at the end of The Derelict Outpost level, sitting to the left of the Lore Marker described above.

The chest contains Ivaldi’s Anvil, a Heavy Runic Attack for the Leviathan Axe. It releases a wide shockwave that staggers enemies backwards, making it a very good crowd control move.

The Derelict Outpost - Blodugr Steinn

The Derelict Outpost - Blodugr Steinn

  • Prerequisite: Acquire the Mystical Heirloom Relic from Midgard
  • Rewards:
    • Amulet Enchantment - Stone of Idol Souls
    • 1 Slumber Stones
    • 25 Bonded Leather
    • 40 Shattered Runes
    • 507 Hacksilver

This boss is located in The Abandoned Outpost in Midgard. However you cannot face these two trolls until you’ve found the Mystical Heirloom Relic, South-West of Tyr’s Temple in Midgard. This itself requires you to complete the Forging Destiny main quest in Svartalfheim.

Once you’ve done those things, head to The Abandoned Outpost and make your way through the cave with two grapple points. Once you’re across, the petrified Blodugr Steinn will be directly ahead.

The Oarsmen - Odin’s Raven 1

The Oarsmen - Odin’s Raven 1

advertisem*nt

This Odin’s Raven is found in the outdoor area of The Oarsman, an area you can access from the Shores of Nine, the Northern area of the Lake of Nine. Look for the wall of Hel’s Bramble you can burn down, allowing you to jump a gap to this region.

There are three ways to get to this Raven:

  • If you’ve only just arrived at The Oarsmen, climb up the wall to the left of the Nornir Chest, defeat the Stalker boss and her minions at the top, then climb up the gold chain.
  • If you’ve pulled down the wooden barricade under the falling mast heat with the Blades of Chaos, you can enter here by slipping through from the entryway to The Oarsmen. Head left and up the ledge to the top of the gold chain.
  • If you DIDN’T pull down the wooden barricade with the Blades of Chaos, you’ll have to go through the hallway to the right of the Nornir Chest, right up the stairs, and then make a U-Turn to the right and up the ledge to get to to the top of the gold chain.

If you followed one of the steps above, you should now be at the top of a gold chain. Here, face South towards the masthead, then look up and to the left to spot the Raven up on the side of the cliff.

Stolen Treasures 1 - Ankh

Stolen Treasures 1 - Ankh

This Artifact is found at the end of the path in The Oarsman. After pulling the chain to move the boat, head down the staircase, then make a U-Turn to the right to find a small passage you can vault through.

The Artifact will be here on the right, with a Hacksilver Chest on the left.

The Oarsmen - Legendary Chest 1

advertisem*nt

The Oarsmen - Legendary Chest 1

  • Contains:
    • Jewel of Yggdrasil
    • 30 Whispering Slabs

This Legendary Chest is found at the end of the path in The Oarsman. After pulling the chain to move the boat, head down the staircase, and it’ll be visible on the right-hand wall.

The chest contains the Jewel of Yggdrasil, which is used to unlock a slot on your Amulet for Enchantments.

The Oarsmen - Lore 1 - The Death of Helgi

The Oarsmen - Lore 1 - The Death of Helgi

  • Type: Lore Marker

This Artifact is found at the end of the path in The Oarsman. After pulling the chain to move the boat, head down the staircase, and it’ll be visible on the back wall.

The Oarsmen - Nornir Chest 1

The Oarsmen - Nornir Chest 1

advertisem*nt

  • Type: Bell

This Nornir Chest is in The Oarsman, an underground area you can access from the Shores of Nine, the Northern area of the Lake of Nine. Look for the wall of Hel’s Bramble you can burn down, allowing you to jump a gap to this region.

Navigation in The Oarsman changes after you’ve climbed back above ground, defeated the Stalker, pulled the chain to move the boat, descended back underground, and opened the gate back to the starting area.

For this reason, we expect that you’ve done all this BEFORE attempting the Nornir Chest.

The Nornir Chest can be spotted in the back-right corner of the starting room, when you first head down the stairs. The tricky part however is that the Bells ring for differing amounts of time: the C Rune’s bell rings for an extremely long time, while the N and R Rune Bells are very short. So, you should hit them in a C-N-R order.

The R Rune is just to the right of the Nornir Chest. Normally it’s blocked by a gate; if that's the case for you, climb up the wall to the left of the Nornir Chest and make your way back around and open the gate from the other side. The R Rune stops ringing the fastest, so it should be the last one you hit.

The C Rune is to the left of the Nornir Chest; it’ll be in a dark chasm to the right of the Mystic Gateway. This bell rings the longest of the three, so you should hit this one first, then quickly whack the other two bells.

The N Rune is located in the area between the two staircases of this lower tomb area. You'll have to stand on the outcropping nearby and hit both this and the R Rune quickly enough.

Kvasir’s Poems 14 - The Dead Do Not Ride

  • References: Days Gone

This Artifact is found in the first room of The Oarsman, however it’s inside one of the giant boats. Thus, you cannot get inside it until you’ve climbed back above ground, defeated the Stalker, pulled the chain to move the boat, descended back underground, and opened the gate back to the starting area.

Once you’ve done all that, return to the starting area and once again climb up the wall to the left of the Nornir Chest. You’ll now climb into the giant boat: when you get to the top, the Artifact will be on your right! The Coffin here contains 6 Stonewood and 891 Hacksilver.

Across the Realms - Nordic Gourd

Across the Realms - Nordic Gourd

The Nordic Gourd is an ingredient you will need to get as part of the side quest "Across the Realms." Luckily, this one is the first ingredient you can find, and it's very close to where you picked up the recipe book.

From the rainbow campfire, head back East to the top of the cliff, and you should spot a yellow heart painted on the wall to your left. Head in that general direction, and you'll find the Nordic Gourd pinging yellow in the snow.

advertisem*nt

Exploring this area for the first time will trigger the Favor "Sigrun's Curse."

The Lost Treasury - Nornir Chest 1

The Lost Treasury - Nornir Chest 1

  • Type: Torch

This Nornir Chest is a lengthy one, because you have to complete it while you’re in the middle of solving the Tyr’s Shield puzzle that is the showcase of this area. The goal is to roll the shield just enough that a hole at the bottom lets you enter the gate of the building. This requires moving a makeshift stopper into position.

To begin, latch the Blades of Chaos onto the grapple point on the right-hand side of the shield, then yank it to the left. This will reveal the C Rune’s torch: set up a chain of Hex Bubbles using Sigil Arrows and set off a reaction with a Blazing Surge.

With that done, yank the shield back to the right, then climb up it to the right-hand side of the ruins. At the top, break the black pot to destroy the gold rocks, felling a stone column. While you can try and move the column with the Blades of Chaos, Tyr’s shield is in the way!

Head through the open doorway, defeat the Wisps that show up with the help of Hexes, then drop down the side of the building (don’t forget to loot the Coffin for 1 Petrified Bone and 871 Hacksilver). From here, latch onto the left-hand side of the shield and tug it to the left. This moves it out of the way so you can put the stone column into position.

Next, climb up the left-hand side of the shield to get back up to the left-hand side of the building. As you approach the door, keep an eye out for the R Rune’s torch above and to the right of it. Set up another Hex Bubble chain you can set off with the Blades of Chaos’ Blazing Surge to light it.

Head through the doorway and get to the stone column you knocked down earlier. Yank it to the left, and it’ll now be sticking out over the edge of the roof. This will stop the shield from rolling too far! Loot the Hacksilver Chest, then drop down the edge of the roof back to solid ground.

Yank to shield to the right to get it into position, then man the wheel crank and turn it to open the gate. Now comes the second conundrum: you have to freeze both of the gears on the left and right sides of the shield to keep the gate from closing.

You can do this with a Hex Bubble, which is able to retain the Axe’s freeze for about 10 seconds. Fire a Sigil Arrow at one of the gears, then quickly throw the Axe into it, recall it, then throw the axe into the other gear and leave it there. You’ll have only a couple of seconds to sprint inside!

Once you’re in, the N Rune’s torch is in the right-hand corner above the rubble. It’s too far for the blades to reach, however the gate closed behind you, so your companion can’t come in and help! To solve this, look for the target on the right-hand side of the gate and break it.

This lets you set up one last chain of Hex Bubbles you can set off to light the torch! With all that done, exit back out and look to your left to spot the Nornir Chest you can now open.
